드라이브란 CD/DVD의 이미지 파일을 레코딩하여 물리적인 CD/DVD 미디어로 만들어 CD/DVD-ROM에 삽입하여
사용하는 대신, 레코딩의 단계를 건너뛰고 이미지 파일을 직접 가상의 CD/DVD-ROM에 불러들여 사용을 하는 방법입니다. 즉,
하드웨어적으로 존재하는 CD/DVD 미디어와 CD/DVD-ROM 대신 소프트웨어적(또는 시스템적)으로 존재하는 이미지 파일과
가상의 CD/DVD-ROM으로 사용을 하는 것입니다.
가상 드라이브의 장점은 이미지로 가지고 있는 파일을 레코딩하지 않고 직접 불러들여 사용을 할 수
있다는 것입니다. 더불어 고속의 CD/DVD 드라이브에서 발생하는 소음이 가상 드라이브에는 존재하지 않으며 CD/DVD 드라이브
보다 빠른 속도를 보장하여 게임 등에서 효과를 느낄 수 있습니다.
Virtual CloneDrive는 가상 CD 프로그램으로 유명한 Daemon Tools와
같이 CD/DVD 이미지 파일을 불러들여 마치 실제 CD/DVD 드라이브에 CD/DVD 미디어를 넣고 사용하는 것처럼 사용할 수
있습니다. 가상 CD/DVD 드라이브는 물리적인 CD/DVD 드라이브에 비해 읽기 속도와 인식 속도가 빠르고 CD/DVD 드라이브
